Ekurhuleni health district awards performing facilities

Ekurhuleni Health District recently held an awareness event at Thelle Mogoerane Regional Hospital as part of recognizing the international month for quality assurance (QA) awareness, on November 25.

The purpose of the event is to award quality improvement projects and to sensitize and inform healthcare practitioners, the community and stakeholders about what quality assurance entails.

Among other issues address the six Ministerial Priority Areas namely Attitude, Patient and Staff Safety, Infection Prevention and Control, Waiting Times, Availability of medicines and Cleanliness.

QA manager Beatrice Peloagae said the QA programme cuts across all programmes including areas of infection prevention and control, waste management, occupational health and safety and risk. It also includes key ministerial priority norms and standards, ideal clinic and hospital realization model, and wellness and health promotion among others.

“We developed sustainable quality improvement plans and continuously monitor and support them through the district’s internal assessment team. That is why other districts benchmark from us,” said Peloagae.

Lizenda Lindani, Eastern Sub-district Region (ESDR) Coordinator and Sekgwadi Napo receive OHSC compliance trophy for one of ESDR clinics.

Awards and Trophies

Certificates of appreciation and trophies were awarded for service excellence and quality improvement projects during the event.

Chief optometrist Takalani Mukheli from Bertha Gxowa Rehabilitation Centre (BGRC) was awarded a certificate for going the extra mile. The trophy was received by Mpolokeng Rankhumise from BGRC.

• Nokuthela Ngwenya from CHC and Far East Rand Hospital (FERH) claimed the floating trophies and certificates from last year’s winners which were Thelle Mogoerane Hospital and J Dumane CHC.

Ngwenya and FERH each received floating trophies and certificates for the clean hands save lives programme.

• Chief Albert Luthuli clinic, Sonto Thobela clinic, Crystal Park clinic, Bedfordview clinic, Geluksdal clinic and Motsamai clinic received trophies from the office of health standards and compliance (OHSC).

• The best performing programmes were awarded certificates of appreciation including Clinical Forensic Medical Services GBV for bringing justice to the people.

FERH and Ngwenya for infection prevention and control sustained (IPC) norms and standards compliance, Phola Park CHC for IPC compliance consistency and sustainability, and Health programmes for youth-friendly services.

• The certificates for the centre of excellence went to chief optometrist Takalani Mukheli from Bertha Gxowa Rehabilitation Centre and Vosloorus Poly Rehabilitation Centre.
