Victims of GBV and DV encouraged to seek support

“Anyone who needs help with counselling should visit their nearest police station.”

Katlehong South SAPS conducted domestic violence (DV) and gender-based violence (GBV) awareness campaign by engaging in one-on-one talks with community members, at Sontonga Mall, Katlehong, on October 12.

The awareness campaign was conducted by DV coordinator Constable Kamohelo Baloyi and social worker axillary Maureen Mdhluli with the CPF, reservists and vispol support members.

They distributed pamphlets with tips on how to get help when a person is involved in DV and GBV.

Katlehong South SAPS media liaison officer Constable Sivenkosi Mtwa said the community members had an opportunity to enquire on further steps when abused – be it a neighbour or relative who is scared to report to the authorities.

He said approximately 200 pamphlets were distributed to the shoppers and community members.

Police have one on one engagements with the community during a domestic violence awareness campaign at Sontonga Mall on October 12.

Constable Baloyi encouraged people to speak out against and say no to GBV and DV.

“Our lives matter and our body is ours and we should not settle in toxic and violent relationships,” said Baloyi.

“Anyone who needs help with regards to counselling should visit their nearest police station as there are trained DV coordinators and social worker axillary that works hand in hand with the police. They also help with referrals in Katlehong. You will find them on the first floor at our green door offices.”
