Police take career expo to Katlehong schools

Some learners showed interest in joining the SAPS and were given guidance on how to join the service.

Kathlehong South SAPS conducted a career expo at three local schools around Katlehong during the school safety program on September 16.

Katlehong SAPS social crime prevention coordinator (SCP) Sergeant Nomathasanqa Nkonkoane visited Mpontsheng Secondary School, Igagasi and Thembalethu primary schools together with the office of CPF led by its chairperson, Phindile Ntuli.

According to Constable Sivenkosi Mtwa, they started with a school safety talk at Mpontsheng where they addressed burning issues like substance abuse, human trafficking and teenage pregnancy.

He said their sister departments and NPOs including the Gauteng Departments of Education, Health, and Correctional Services, along with Ekupholeni, Skeem GP Foundation and the local ward councillor Nfana Dube attended the program.

“The team moved to Igagasi Primary School for a career expo, with some of the learners wearing attire that represent their future career of interest. Some showed interest in joining the SAPS and were given guidance on how to join the service,” said Mtwa.

“The last stop was at Thembalethu Primary School for another career expo, where the learners dressed up like professionals of various departments. Speakers from respective departments shared the centre stage explaining the processes these learners should follow to peruse their careers.”

Nkonkoane said building a better tomorrow starts by building a better generation for tomorrow.

“I encourage parents not to lose hope in their children as they are labelled as ama-2000s. We need to understand as parents and learn to live with the times as we live in a different century with a big task at hand, which is to guide our children to a better tomorrow.”
