Former EWC student appears in court for murder

He remains in custody until his next court appearance on February 15.

Former Ekurhuleni West Collage (EWC) student Ntsikelelo Saki (29) reappeared in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on charges of murder on January 24.

The matter was postponed to February 15 for the high court indictment to be drafted.

He is accused of killing his classmate, Mbali Hlongwane, on October 21, 2021. Hlongwane was a first-year student at EWC doing NQF level 1 in information technology.

She was stabbed five times in broad daylight outside the EWC campus. She succumbed to the injuries and died at Thelle Mogoerane Hospital.

Saki hid from law enforcement for more than a year. He was employed and later arrested in Montague, Cape Town, on November 4 last year.

He will remain in police custody until his next appearance at Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on February 15.
