Police operation yields successful results

Police managed to seize 20 blood samples sealed in blood kits, one revolver and two ammunitions among others.

Ekurhuleni law enforcement yielded positive results following the arrest of 26 suspects for various crimes during a high-density operation led by Major General Anna Sithole, at the Vosloorus policing precinct, on August 27.

At least 20 individuals were arrested for drunk driving, one person was arrested for illegal possession of a firearm, two people for possession of drugs and three other suspects were arrested for dealing in liquor without a licence.

Police managed to seize 20 blood samples sealed in blood kits, one revolver, two rounds of ammunition, six packets of nyaope (size unspecified) and 3 346 117ml of alcohol.

The joint operation comprised Vosloorus SAPS, Katlehong North, Zonkizizwe, Tokoza, Primrose, Elsburg, Germiston, Bedfordview, Brackensdown, Alberton SAPS and CPF.

Six packets of nyaope were seized during the high-density operation on August 27.

Law enforcers paraded at Chris Hani Mall before painting the Vosloorus streets blue, with the aim to enforce the law while creating a safe and peaceful environment for the community.

Vispol commander of Vosloorus SAPS Colonel Mathebula emphasised the importance of ensuring that the streets of Vosloorus are clear and free from any acts of criminality and creating a safe environment for the citizens, as he addressed the police during the parade.

Mathebula gave a clear command for the operation to focus on roadblocks, drunk and driving, drugs and substance abuse, and illegal and noncompliance of liquor establishments.

A total of 3 346 117ml of alcohol was confiscated.

Vosloorus SAPS communication officer Constable Nompumelelo Nhlapo said they were able to search 234 people, seven vehicles, 33 premises, 44 spaza shops and 23 ATMs.

She said they visited 10 liquor outlets, managed to close down three and went on to patrol 41 hot spots.

The station commander of Vosloorus SAPS, Brigadier Ntombizini Thethe, commended the team for their swift response in addressing the proliferation of unlicensed illegal firearms on the streets and reducing crime in the district.
