The Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department urges all road users to be cautious during rainy seasons.

The EMPD urges road users to always be cautious during rainy seasons and comply with the rules of the road as per the National Road Traffic Act.

Here are crucial tips for road users, provided by the EMPD:

• Motorists must be very careful and avoid driving through flooded areas.

• Do not try to drive over a low-water bridge if water is flowing strongly across it and the ground is not visible.

• Do not park your car along rivers, especially during heavy rains or thunderstorms.

• Drive to and park in safer areas.

• Never walk, swim or drive through swift-flowing water, even if you think the water is not deep. It might sweep you away.

• Pedestrians or cyclists should also avoid crossing low-lying bridges, streams and rivers.

• Do not cross through flooded roads or bridges, use other routes.
