Search resumes for youngsters swept away in Kliprivier during cleansing ritual

Emergency teams intensify efforts to locate two individuals, aged 18 and 21, who were swept away in the Klipriivier during a cleansing ritual.

The Emergency Management Services (EMS) in Johannesburg have recommenced their search for two young individuals, aged 18 and 21, swept away during a cleansing ritual in the Kliprivier near Olifantsvlei on November 19.

Robert Mulaudzi, the spokesperson of EMS, said the search has been ongoing since November 19.

“We plea that residents exercise caution during cleansing rituals and baptisms to ensure their safety,” said Mulaudzi.

He emphasises the importance of traditional healers, prophets, and pastors prioritising safety during such rituals to prevent incidents like the recent one. Furthermore, he urged residents not to approach rivers, especially in the aftermath of heavy rains, as a precautionary measure.
