Alternative payments methods to receive your social grant

SASSA grant recipients may use existing personal bank accounts to receive their grants.

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) informs beneficiaries of alternative forms of payment they can choose to receive their social grant besides Postbank.

The options Sassa beneficiaries have include using their existing personal bank account or opening a new bank account with a bank of their choice.

Clients can take their 13-digit ID document, official proof from the bank that the account is in the applicant’s name, and the client will then complete a form from Sassa where they consent to their social grant money being paid into their confirmed personal bank account.

This consent form should have the client’s reachable and active contact details in case the office needs to contact them.

Should there be monies on the previous card the client used to receive their social grant, those monies must be withdrawn because only money for the coming month will be paid into the new account.

Clients are advised not to destroy the old card until the money is paid into the new card.If a client from another province requests a change in payment method, they should be aware that this process requires transferring their details from one province to the next and may delay the process.

If the client’s first grant application was not made in the Gauteng offices, the client must provide the correct contact details.

The October payment dates are:

October 3 – old age grants, followed by disability grants on October 4. Children’s grants on October 5.

Clients are reminded of the increase in social grants for October:
