EMPD welcomes warmer days

It is that time of the year where light to heavy rainfalls are to set in, and the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) urges motorists to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy.

With light to heavy rainfalls soon to set in amid the hot climate, the EMPD urges motorists to ensure the roadworthiness of their vehicles.

Safety guidelines according to the EMPD:

• The vehicle pre-trip inspections are compulsory when a driver is about to drive any vehicle.

• Check and attend to oil leaks so that it does not affect other road users.

• Check for worn-out tyres because if they are not in good condition, especially smooth, they might burst when the tarmac is hot.

• Ensure the windscreen wiper blades of the vehicle are wiping in a way that provides a clear view.

• Windscreens should not be cracked, particularly on the driver’s side.

• When the road is slippery and wet, it takes longer for any vehicle to stop, especially when carrying a heavy load. Keep a safe following distance.

• All the vehicle lights must be in working condition when there is a mist or fog to ensure visibility to other road users.

• Use your vehicle’s lights during the day or night in rainy weather.
