Renew license disc to avoid penalties
If you forgot to renew an expired motor vehicle license disc, you have a 21-day grace period from the day it expired to do so.
As an owner of a vehicle, you must renew its annual license disc before it expires, said the EMPD.
If you fail to renew the license disc, the EMPD said you will be liable for late licensing penalties. These will be issued with a written notice and charged under the National Road Traffic Act 93/1996, read with regulation 18 – operated unlicensed motor vehicle on a public road.
If the vehicle is registered in your name, these documents are needed:
• Identity document
• Proof of residence

You can renew a motor vehicle license disc at your nearest licensing department or post office.
