Netcare offers basic CPR

Locals had an insightful session of learning more about cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in honour of Mandela Day over the weekend.

Netcare Alberton Hospital and Netcare Mulbarton Hospital hosted a cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in the Park initiative on July 22 at Meyer Farm and Rietvlei respectively.

Netcare Emergency and Trauma combined it with the parkruns at Meyer Farm and Rietvlei. The insightful initiative was part of their 67 minutes contribution to Mandela Day where they taught the public basic CPR.

CPR is an emergency procedure that can help save a person’s life if their breathing or heart stops.

According to Zasskia Wiese, trauma programme manager, at every parkrun in the country, the Netcare group showed up to host their ‘CPR in the Park’ event.

“We often do events in communities, but this was the first time we did the CPR in the Park event for Mandela Day. We actually had one of our nursing staff that did CPR on a person at a parkrun three weeks ago and he survived. And our message is that CPR saves lives,” she said.

One attendee, Christelle Schoeman, said: “It was quite an interesting and a very nice session and the staff was so friendly.”
