Eden Park skills centre recognises distinguished community leaders

The KD Mathematical Academy and Skills Development Centre recently recognised leaders from all walks of life at an event in Eden Park through the Build One South Africa community (Bosa)

Scores of community members filled the Eden Park Community Hall to witness the recognition of about 60 community leaders from Eden Park and surrounding areas.

The aim was to show appreciation for individuals and community organisations distinguished for their roles in community building.

As part of their acknowledgements, community members received certificates and medals.

The categories were faith-based leaders, lifetime awards, community leaders, educational sector, early childhood development, business fraternity, societies, sports fraternity, and the youth.

“Our keynote speaker was the deputy president of Build One South Africa (Bosa) Nobuntu Hlazo-Webster. We also had Stephen Makgalipa (chairperson of the Bosa board), Hlumelo Biko (the CEO of Bosa), Given Moyane (national events and ground co-ordinator) and other provincial and regional leaders in attendance,” explained Desmond Benjamin, the chairperson of KD Mathematical Academy and Skills Development Centre.

Hlazo-Webster, Makgalipa and Biko (son of Steve Biko) handed the appreciation certificates and medals to the recipients.

“Other individuals honoured with Lifetime Awards were past community leaders who died having played a major role in the community. All the recipients were excited and joyous about the recognition,” Benjamin said.
