EMPD remembers fallen heroes with Wall of Remembrance

Honouring officers who have died while in service of the metro police.

A memorial wall, remembering EMPD officers who paid the highest price for their country while performing their duties, was unveiled by Ekurhuleni Mayor Tania Campbell last Friday.

The wall is located at the EMPD’s headquarters at the corner of Margaret and Long streets in Kempton Park.

The unveiling was attended by MMC of Community Safety Khathutshelo Rasilingwane, oversight committee members, colleagues and police chiefs from different metros.

“The wall was created as a means to give recognition to EMPD officers and the plight of their loved ones who must cope with the emotional and practical consequences of these tragic events,” said EMPD chief of police Isaac Mapiyeye.

Campbell stated the unveiling was a step closer to ensuring the magnificent structure will form part of the annual calendar of events.

The goal of erecting the memorial is to host wreath-laying ceremonies and offer family members and colleagues the opportunity to reflect on and honour fallen heroes.
