LISTEN: Comments on drafting Ekurhuleni’s new water service by-laws

To meet everyone’s needs, the City of Ekurhuleni encourages all locals to take part in the drafting of new water service by-laws.

A representative from the City of Ekurhuleni’s (CoE) Water and Sanitation Department, Lorato Mabula, discussed, in a voice recording, the value of citizen input in creating the new water service by-laws.

This comes after the CoE’s review of its 2002 water supply and wastewater by-laws. They then combined them to develop a water services by-law draft.

The Municipal Systems Act requires municipalities to ensure that communities are involved in municipal policies and decisions that affect them through public participation.

Residents are encouraged to attend public meetings, scheduled as per the programme on the City’s website, and provide their input.

Information on submitting comments can be found on the City’s website, along with various notice boards and the nearest CCCs.

Written comments can be submitted at the CCCs or emailed to waterservicebylaw@ekurhuleni.gov.za.

The deadline for submission of comments is the last day of next month.

For more clarity on the by-law draft, call 011 999 4363.
