Rand Water warns residents of a power trip in Palmiet Pumping Station

To avoid a water shortage, Rand Water urges residents to use water wisely after a power trip in a pumping station that provides Rand Water with 40% of its total capacity.

Rand Water urges residents to use the water sparingly after a power trip at the Palmiet Pumping Station on February 7 around 15:35.

The station, which delivers 40% of Rand Water’s total capacity, had to be shut down to diagnose the problem. The Eskom crew is still conducting fault-finding on the ground.

Rand Water will progressively activate the pumps after isolating and locating the fault. The Palmiet pumping station will not operate at full capacity for at least three hours following the restart.

The reservoirs that will be impacted by the Palmiet Pumping Station’s power outage include Klipriviersberg, Northridge, Germiston, Klipfontein, Brakfontein and Hartebeeshoek.

There is a chance that some areas of the City of Ekurhuleni, the City of Johannesburg and the City of Tshwane will be impacted.

Customers are therefore encouraged to use water wisely to avoid an inconsistent water supply.

The effects of load-shedding are a topic of ongoing discussion at Rand Water and they are hopeful that a long-term solution will be developed swiftly.
