Ward 106 introduces much-needed improvements at Alberton SAPS

Ward 106 Clr Tim Denny has announced the commitment taken by concerned residents in implementing changes that will enhance service at Alberton SAPS.

Security gates and CCTV cameras are temporally being put up at Alberton North’s Alberton SAPS, ahead of the station’s renovations at its new building.

Concerned community members, along with AfriForum, reached out to Alberton SAPS to generously and voluntary offer help, especially for trauma victims, working alongside other entities.

The SAPS management gladly welcomed assistance as they then contributed with security gates and cameras.

“This is after I initiated the visit from our shadow minister of security for our party. The community has come forward and has committed to putting up cameras and a secondary gate free of charge. I reached out and the people have come. One of the mobile offices at the station will be used as a trauma room for abuse victims,” explained Ward 106 Clr Tim Denny.

Denny said he has also committed to helping a police station in Vosloorus, Kathorus, together with a shadow minister of security.

“My objective is that I want Alberton SAPS to be as good as Brackendowns SAPS. I want this to be the best SAPS in Ekurhuleni. My ward is about to become the best ward in Ekurhuleni, thanks to my supportive ward committee members. Without them nothing would have happened,” he said.

Sudden Light, an NPO, will also be lending a helping hand with setting up a trauma room for abuse victims at the station along with ‘mama Action’.

“All the furniture for this room has been purchased and is ready to be moved in. The station will eventually be moving to a building next door. We can’t do too much at this current facility, but we can at least do something while we wait,” said Denny.

Alberton SAPS station commander Colonel Olven Letloenyane thanked the group and locals for their commitment and for improving their services.

“We’re so happy to see community members taking care of us and that they have the security of the station and its members at heart. We’re renovating, so we don’t want their assistance to go to waste. At the end of the day we don’t want those things to be removed,” he said.

Letloenyane said these devices will assist them in monitoring their building.
