Blind SA allocates bursaries to blind and partially sighted persons

Alrode’s Blind SA is grateful to be able to contribute to the development of young blind and partially sighted persons.

Blind SA has allocated over R100 000 in study bursaries to blind and partially sighted persons.

Their purpose is to end the cycle of poverty for blind South Africans, empowering them with knowledge and information through education, braille and developmental services.

They aim to break down barriers, provide opportunities and create answers that improve the quality of life for the blind community so that they can live the life they choose.

“It is in pursuit of the attainment of the above-mentioned purpose that Blind SA, with its dedicated donors, gives out study bursaries twice a year to deserving blind and partially sighted students,” explained Lebohang Tekela of Blind SA.

By March 31, over 100 study bursaries were allocated to a value of R672 000 and on August 31, a further 14 study bursaries were valued at R104 000.

Their beneficiaries attend different educational institutions around the country doing a range of courses.
Tekela reiterated that they have students in various institutions doing different courses.

“This includes institutions such as St George College, University of Limpopo, South West Gauteng TVET College, University of Fort Hare and the University of Johannesburg.

“New bursaries have been allocated to students from the University of South Africa, University of Limpopo, University Of Cape Town, South West Gauteng Technical and the University of Free State,” he said.

Their next opening for applications for bursaries will be in January and students who qualify are invited to apply.

“We would also like to invite funders to help us advance this worthy cause.”

Study bursary application forms may be downloaded from the Blind SA website.
