Crime busting operation roots out crime in Brackenhurst

As per preliminary successes, at least 56 traffic fines to the value of R30 150 were issued at a road block conducted during the Okae Molao Operation.

SAPS members and other law enforcement agencies led a joint operation in Brackenhurst, which yielded success on September 15.

The Okae Molao Operation was spearheaded by Ekurhuleni district commissioner Major General Anna Sithole alongside other SAPS commanders.

The successful integrated operation focused on patrols in the area, as well as searches.

Also present were Protective Force, Sentinel Security and React-24.

Sithole confirmed that they had two operations running simultaneously on the day in the district. The other one was conducted in Kempton Park.

“We also had a vehicle control point in Brackendowns. We issued a J534 notice in one of the uncompliant second-hand goods stores in the community and they were fined R1 500 for their shortcomings. We decided to come to the area because it is showing a spike in 17 categories of community-reported crimes,” she said.

These contact crimes according to Sithole prompted their operation as they decided to intervene.

“For the first quarter they had an increase in attempted murders, and assaults and part of the challenge is business break-ins. They’re also having a challenge with commercial crimes, fraud cases and malicious damage to property where house beams are being targeted,” she explained.

She told the Alberton Record their operational teams focused on drugs and second-hand goods stores while others focused solely on the roadblock.
