Operation Basadi conducted on the N3

Operation Basadi rounds off Women's Month.

On August 30, Operation Basadi was conducted on the N3 highway near the De Hoek Toll Plaza.

The operation was conducted to conclude Women’s Month. The media was invited to join the day’s activities at the roadblock.

In the parade to kick off the operation, Brigadier Nikiwe Sefatsa said that Woman’s Day or month must not only be done in August but be maintained through every day of the year.

Sefatsa said further these women go above and beyond the normal day to do their duties and make a difference in their respective communities.

She concluded, “Together we can make a huge difference in the communities. We need to get the people to start to look up to us again and trust us with all issues and cases.”

The operation had a real Sedibeng flavour as SAPS and law enforcement members from across Sedibeng took part in the roadblock operation.

A vehicle was searched during Operation Basadi.

Members from Sebokeng, Vanderbijlpark, Vereeniging, Barrage, Kliprivier, Meyerton, Heidelberg as well as traffic officials from Lesedi and Gauteng traffic and home affairs were in attendance.

The purpose of the operation was to do a stop-and-search of everyone that was stopped, from body searches to vehicle searches.

Vehicles and vehicle contents were searched for illegal contents and activities, illegal firearms, car hijacking, hitchhikers being picked up, narcotics and GBV issues.

Part of the operation was to visit shopping centres, patrolling ATMs and visiting tuck shops and petrol stations.
The operation yielded numerous successes:17 illegal immigrants were arrested, seven fines were issued, one shebeen closed for selling liquor without a licence and liquor was seized.

With the year-end season approaching, these operations will be intensified to bring all criminal activities to book and to ensure that the residents and communities are looked after.
