SAPS and public partnership aims to fight crime

Various discussions were tabled which included mostly drugs in the area and implementation plans among others.

Police continue to consistently engage with the communities in public meetings.

On July 24, Katlehong SAPS visited sector one in Mosiliki section to engage with the community on various crimes affecting them and worked on solutions that will enhance the fight against crime.

Acting station commander and head of Vispol Colonel Pieter Erasmus was accompanied by acting branch commander Lieutenant Colonel Sekhu and sector manager Sergeant Senoa and Sergeant Chabalala.

Crime prevention members, reservists and CPF members led by chairperson Phindile Ntuli were also among the attendees that formed part of the public engagement with the community.

The community was led by Ward Clr Fana Nkosi.

Community members pose questions during the question and answer session.

According to Katlehong South media liaison officer Constable Sivenkosi Mtwa, various discussions were tabled, which included drugs in the area, implementation plans and a call to the community to help the police identify the drug dealers and share information with the police anonymously.

The community was encouraged to form patrol groups to patrol their own communities during the night whereby most of the crime is committed.

Mtwa said during a question and answer session Erasmus took the opportunity to educate the public about the processes that follow after one has been arrested.

“Everyone has a right to bail and it does not mean after getting bail they are free from their deeds (crime) and there are court proceedings that one has to follow till the magistrate decides on a case,” said Erasmus.

Community members can report crime anonymously on the crime stop line at 08600 10111 or use the MySAPS app that can be downloaded on any smartphone via PlayStore.
