Police operation leads to 113 arrests

The suspects were apprehended for various crimes ranging from murder, attempted murder, rape and sexual assault among others.

Police in Ekurhuleni Sub-East District managed to arrest 113 suspects during various operations held over the weekend, between July 15 and 17.

Police in Zone 4 joined forces with other stakeholders such as the EMPD, Home Affairs immigration officials, CPF and different security companies in order to conduct various operations in their policing precinct.

According to the Katlehong South SAPS media liaison officer, the suspects were arrested through different operations which included roadblocks, random stop and searches, and VCP tracing of wanted suspects by detectives.

Dagga was seized during the operation.

He explained that the suspects were apprehended for various crimes such as murder, attempted murder, rape, sexual assault, common assault that includes domestic violence, assault with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, common robbery, malicious damage of property, housebreaking and theft, theft, shoplifting, possession of suspected stolen property, and possession of drugs.

Other suspects were arrested for possession of a hijacked motor vehicle, possession of dagga, tampering with infrastructure, dealing in drugs, selling liquor without a license and driving under the influence of alcohol.

The media liaison officer further shared that during the station commander’s operation on July 15, three males were arrested for possession of suspected stolen property at Buhle Park and another man was arrested in Ext 2, Moleleki Section for dealing in drugs.

All arrested suspects are due to appear in various courts in Ekurhuleni on different charges.
