City of Ekurhuleni makes over thousand residents official homeowners

Palmridge Extension nine residents were showered with their title deeds on July 20 after being allocated their houses in 2017.

More than 1 000 Palm Ridge residents were thrilled to be legally recognised as homeowners on July 20.

This became a reality when the city issued 1 110 title documents to the locals from the Department of Human Settlements.

According to a resident in Palm Ridge, Jacob Makulwane (66), he has been a resident for the past five years, where his RDP house was allocated to him in 2017 and it has been unsettling for him to stay with family in a house that he does not fully own.

“Receiving this title deed brings a sense of relief to me as the head of the house. I’m now certain that I have secured a home for my children,” he said.

Since the start of the Palm Ridge housing project in 2016, there has been a measurable improvement in the quality of life for residents, who now have a title deed as proof of their status as legal residents.

Spokesperson of Ekurhuleni, Zweli Dlamini, said that the township currently consists of 2 312 residential stands allocated to beneficiaries. More title deeds will still be allocated to the rightful homeowners.
