Rape of young girls in Vosloorus needs urgent intervention

There are about three men who abduct young girls and drive them to secluded areas to violate and rape them.

Kutloano Makgoro from Vosloorus writes,

I wish to draw your attention to the increasing violation of women in Vosloorus. There is a sharp rise in the abduction and rape of young girls.

It has been confirmed by the police in Vosloorus that two vehicles follow women around the Nguni section and Extension 14. One of the cars is said to be a white Volkswagen.

There are about three men who abduct young girls and drive them to secluded areas to violate and rape them.

Women do not feel safe going outside. These incidents are happening in the daytime and none of the perpetrators have been caught thus far. The offenders are reported to be covering their faces with balaclavas and are armed with guns.

This township is becoming unsafe and girls can no longer go out on their own. It is a cause for concern. The toxic masculinity among men is something that should be addressed.

Women should not be afraid to go out because they fear being harassed by men. Women are equal members of our society and should be treated with respect.

It is in need at this time to develop self-defence classes for young women, for the community to be on high alert and on a look out for these vehicles and for strict punishment to be given to these perpetrators.

I request you to publish this letter in the newspaper so that people may become aware and the situation can improve for women in Vosloorus.
