TYP initiates fundraiser campaign to curb substance abuse

One Kasi One Treatment Centre fundraising is a clarion call for adequately resourced inpatient treatment centres and halfway houses in particular within their townships and rural areas.

Tsohang Youth Project (TYP) is calling for the community’s assistance as it aims to build a reliable and sustainable treatment centre that will assist in fighting the scourge of drug and substance abuse in townships and beyond.

Founder of TYP Moses Gama previously expressed his concerns about treatment centres, emphasising that there is much need for more, especially in the townships where many youngsters and their families are affected.

The Katlehong-based NGO, which is dedicated to assisting youth to fight drug and substance abuse, needs the community’s assistance to raise funds for the One Kasi One Treatment Centre (OKOTC) campaign.

Gama said the OKOTC fundraising is a clarion call for adequately resourced inpatient treatment centres and halfway houses in particular within their townships and rural areas.

He said it is ongoing until they realise it. He pleads with communities to pledge and donate monthly or whenever they can.

Gama said the campaign began in July during the birth month of the world’s renowned late statesman Nelson Mandela.

“We would urge a small donation and, or, monthly pledge of R67 to assist us to continue with the call to bring awareness and prevention against substance abuse that is prevalent within communities,” said Gama.

What is the campaign about and who will it benefit?

He explained that in the 17 years they have been in operation they have seen how fundamental it is having adequate resourced inpatient rehabilitation centres, halfway houses and aftercare programmes within their community, as it helps in curbing the scourge of drug abuse the public currently faces.
