Bridge Management System prioritises Alrode South bridge

City’s spokesperson Zweli Dlamini recently said that Roads Department has requested the council to make provision for the implementation of the Bridge Management System (BMS).

The pedestrian bridge at Angus Train Station in Alrode South remains unfixed after it was hit by a truck on July 4, 2020.

It is believed that at the time, a truck’s hydraulic system caused the tipper to lift while it was in motion, hitting the bridge which resulted in the collapse.

According to the city’s Roads and Stormwater Department, the bridge, which has been up for more than four decades, did not collapse as a result of structural defect or negligence from the city.

Reports suggest that there are currently no funds available to rebuild the Alrode South pedestrian bridge.
