Alberton dancer chasing his dreams

Quinton hopes to inspire others with his can-do attitude.

Quinton Madlala is an 18-year-old dancer and actor from Alberton who is chasing his dreams.

In 2016 Quinton and a friend started dancing to compete in SA Got Talent. It was during this time that he fell in love with dancing, but unfortunately, the group broke up. From that point, he only danced solo.

Quinton had his first taste of acting while playing an extra on the set of the famous SABC series, Generations.
This was when he discovered his love for acting and how a script can turn a person into a character.

In 2019 Quinton auditioned for the International Art Talent Showcase and was shortlisted to represent South Africa at the 2020 International Modelling and Talent Association (IMTA) in New York, but it was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“My mother had spent a lot of money to make my dream come true but it all went to nought because of the pandemic. Throughout the pandemic, I had lost all motivation. I lost friends and family to the pandemic and thought, ‘this is the end of the world’ and lost all motivation in pursuing my dream.

“On May 6 I received a notification that there are auditions the next day. I was hit with an overwhelming feeling of motivation and a sense of urgency that I have to join again, even though I had previously thought my talents had supposedly left me. I practised all night with no rest and slept the next morning on my way to the auditions.

“I succeeded in getting a call back to audition in the 12th International Arts Talent Showcase that will be held from September 29 to October 1 at the Silverstar Casino in Roodepoort. I will be auditioning against 1 500 artists from South Africa, Namibia and several other countries in Africa and perform in front of 10 international judges for a chance to travel to the United States of America and showcase my talent to the rest of the world,” said Quinton.

This has renewed Quinton’s drive and has led him to chase his dream again – going from feeling he had nothing left to do and all hope has been lost.

Quinton said: “The message I want to spread to the youth of South Africa is that no matter what bad happens in your life, there is light at the end of the tunnel. No dream is too small and a thousand miles begins with one step. All in all, I feel very excited to once again embrace South Africa with my art.”
