Alleged truck hijacking victim detained at Alberton Police Station

A man was arrested for hijacking and defeating the ends of justice at Alberton Police Station and the police are further investigating.

Alberton Police station commander Colonel Olven Letloenyane warns community members about the charges one can face when lying to law enforcers or reporting a false case.

This follows after two men came to the police station in Alberton on May 25 to report a case of truck hijacking, which allegedly took place at Alrode.

According to Captain Manare Ramotshela, spokesperson for Alberton SAPS, during interviewing the men, it was established that they had different versions of what happened.

They were then interviewed separately before they were escorted to the scene where the apparent hijacking took place.

On the way, the driver of the truck confessed that there was no firearm involved and that the whole thing was just a set-up.

A case of defeating the ends of justice was added to the truck hijacking case that had previously been opened.
The driver is still in custody.

Letloenyane is appealing to the community not to open false cases because such instances will not be tolerated and those responsible for such acts will face the full might of the law.

The truck is missing and police are investigating.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Alberton SAPS 011 861 6800.
