Silumaview residents unite against crime

Vesi was impressed with community leaders who showed interest to assist the fight against crime.

The community of Silumaview in Katlehong organised a meeting with the Katlehong South SAPS management to discuss issues of crime under the theme Take Charge to work together in the fight against crime on March 26.

Katlehong SAPS was represented by station commander Brig Albertina Vesi, Vispol commander Col Erasmus, acting detective head Lt Col Sekhu, FCS commander Lt Col Mndluli and communications officer Capt Mega Ndobe.

Also present was the CPF represented by deputy chairperson Madoda Sibeko, youth crime-prevention desk, Green Door ambassador Gugu Mofokeng, Ward 63 councillor Nomonde Kiyane and meeting coordinators.

According to Ndobe, the meeting went well as all the speakers committed to working with the police to address crime.

“The station management represented its duties to the community of Silumaview professionally. Residents of Silumaview now understand the different roles the police play.

“For example, investigating housebreaking or burglary until the suspect is arrested and the process of rape cases, where some victims decide to withdraw charges,” said Ndobe.

Sibeko encouraged the community to register its structures as a form of a crime-prevention strategy.

Vesi was impressed with community leaders who showed interest to assist the fight against crime.

She discouraged the community from taking the law into its own hands, and rather call the police, make use of the sector manager or sector vehicle contact details.
