Fidelity ADT arrest suspected hijackers

Hijacking and other vehicle-related crimes are a growing concern in Joburg South and have been flagged by the Fidelity ADT group.

On the evening of March 17, Fidelity received a report of a hijacked truck on the R59 via social media.

Fidelity’s specialised intervention unit (SIU) from the Joburg South and East region with the help of the secure drive ops team responded to the message and arrange a search with the trucking company of the vehicle.

Jacqui Moloi, the spokesperson for Fidelity ADT, said: “Co-ordinates led the team to an area in Daleside, Randvaal, where a search was conducted. While searching, the Fidelity team together with the tracking company and Midvaal peace officers found the trailer in a residential area.

“Three suspects were found with the trailer with its load of steel rods. The team managed to apprehend the suspects. The suspects were then handed over to Kliprivier SAPS who took both the truck and trailer and a case of truck hijacking and possession of stolen property was opened for further investigation.”

The driver of the truck was found tied up inside the truck not far from where the trailer was.

Marius Greeff of Fidelity ADT SIU who was also on the scene said: “Well done to all the parties involved for their swift response to the incident and arresting suspects and recovering the truck and trailer with its full load still intact.

“This close collaboration with the SAPS, CPF, tracking companies and security companies once again highlights the importance of all stakeholders working together to fight crime. We will continue to work together to send a strong message that lawlessness will not be tolerated.”

The suspects were detained by Kliprivier SAPS for further investigation.

A case of truck hijacking and possession of stolen property was opened by the truck driver.
