Ekurhuleni district zone four SAPS and other law-enforcement agencies arrested at least 288 suspects during a crime-prevention operation in various policing areas between March 18 and 20.
The zone four police stations involved in the operations were Vosloorus, Thokoza, Zonkezizwe, Eden Park, Katlehong South and North, Bedfordview, Elsburg, Devon, Germiston and Primrose SAPS.
According to Vosloorus communications officer Nompumelelo Nhlapo, the 288 suspects were arrested during the operations, which saw police conduct roadblocks, tracing wanted suspects and random stop-and-searches.
The suspects were arrested for various crimes, including possession of suspected stolen property, theft, common assault including domestic violence, assault GBH, shoplifting, drunk driving, dealing in liquor, possession of an unlicensed firearm, pointing of a firearm, common robbery and negligence, possession of dagga and drugs, attempted murder, rape, trespassing, fraud, pedestrians on the freeway, crimen injuria, sexual assault and contempt of court.
All arrested suspects are expected to appear in various courts in the district soon.
