Wattville resident hopeful City will respond to 75% debt write off proposed

Nhlapho is confident that the memorandum delivered by ANC Caucus at Benoni CCC, will be responded to.

Ekurhuleni ANC Caucus marched to Benoni Customer Care Centre (CCC) to submit a memorandum in a bid to have at least 75 per cent of rates and tax debt owed to the municipality by citizens written off, on March 16.

Pensioner mama Nhlapho from Wattville says she is confident that the memorandum delivered by ANC Caucus at Benoni CCC, will be responded to.

She said she is happy that she will be able to sleep again as she could not sleep stressing about where she will get the R 27 000, amount owed to the municipality.

In a video captured during the march, Nhlapho can be heard explaining that there is no one working in their household and she not earning a pension.

“I owed R 27 000 but I do not have an income, my children are still in school, there is no one who can cough out even R 1000, I am relieved, I’ll be able to sleep,” said Nhlapho.

More details on the story will be in the next edition of Kathorusa Mail on Wednesday, March 23, 2022.
