Ekurhuleni allocates R2-million towards SPCA

The City of Ekurhuleni has allocated R2-million towards the SPCA in 2021/22 adjusted budget.

This allocation is an aid grant directed toward the welfare of animals at all nine SPCA branches in Ekurhuleni.

The critical needs that will be addressed by the allocated budget include the expansion of the roll-out of the immunisation programme of dogs, protection of stray dogs, medication, nutrition and the massive roll-out of the educational campaigns on animal cruelty.

On February 28, MMC for Corporate, Legal and Shared Services Ruhan Robinson conducted a site visit at the Boksburg SPCA, where Boksburg SPCA officials Vicky Finnemore and Willie du Plessis informed the MMC that the grant-in-aid would contribute to the upkeep of the facilities across Ekurhuleni.

“There are a great number of animal lovers within the community of Ekurhuleni. It remains the responsibility of the local government to work with institutions such as the SPCA and members of the community to guarantee the safety and health of animals by providing all the support needed, including financial support. A win for the animals is a win for the community,” said Robinson.

In addition, Robinson encouraged members of the community to adopt animals from the SPCA to provide them with a stable home and condemned the criminal acts of animal cruelty, particularly the dog fight challenges.
