Thembinfundo Primary learners receive school uniforms

Zigzag Café handed over school uniforms to learners from disadvantaged backgrounds at Thembinfundo Primary School during the second leg of their charity drive at Vosloorus on February 3.

Ten learners received new full school uniforms.

The first leg of the school uniform drive kick-started off in KwaThema where over 50 schoolgoing children received brand new school uniforms from Zigzag Café on their first week of the schooling year.

The manager of Zigzag Café Thamsie Langa told Kathorus that they are only visiting one school in Vosloorus, but they have a target of 300 learners around Ekurhuleni.

Langa said the inspiration for the charity drive is from the owner Simphiwe Mkhwanazi, who is a loving person and cares about society.

“He prompted us to look at a programme that will give back to children in the community, specifically catering for school uniforms.”

She said they started raising funds last year December. This included hosting an event on December 16 that was well supported.

She said initially they were targeting 100 children, but because God is good it ended up being 300 learners.

Four other schools that are listed to benefit from these donations include Phumulani, Mangosuthu and Tsakani primary schools as well as Mamelong Comprehensive Secondary School.

Mkhwanazi said wearing a full school uniform is not just about complying with the set school rules, it also brings about a sense of dignity to the learner wearing it.

“We intend to adopt these learners and support them with other needs like food and toiletries,” said Mkhwanazi.

The principal of Thembinfundo Primary School Mamsi Ntande said they appreciate any organisation or company that helps the learners.

“Zigzag Café has made a wonderful gesture as you will find that our learners come from needy families.

“As a child, if you are not wearing the same uniform as other children you do not feel comfortable, so this great gesture from our donors helps them to have a high regard for themselves,” she concluded.
