Wimpy donates to old age home

Sue Lubbe and friends do it again in partnership with Wimpy, Pick ‘n Pay, PNA and Zia Bava, which receives the award on behalf of his dad, Aslam Bava.

Letter to the editor:

Sue Lubbe and friends run various projects from feeding people throughout the year to ‘stay warm day’ projects for winter.

In 2019, we fed 124 831 people. In 2020 during level five lockdown we were restricted by law to only pack and prepare groceries to drop outside the homes and they, in turn, had to distribute to the residents of that home.

That was a very costly exercise and while everyone was being at home we were too busy preparing the grocery packs.

During 2020, many people donated toys, clothing and so much more, but during 2021 it was even harder to get food and clothing that people willingly gave away. Now it is a case of will we have an income tomorrow to purchase something new?

Last year has been a very difficult year again. In three months we have fed 72 000 plus people during the winter. Funds were coming in very slowly as companies were retrenching and cutting back on staff and their expenses.

But for groups like ourselves, it made every effort twice as difficult. To every sponsor, public member or friend that opened their hearts we salute you.

Thanks to the Southern COURIER, the Comaro CHRONIClE and Alberton RECORD that are always willing to help the various groups.

I am now searching for young people that want to join our group to become new leaders of the future as my age is catching up and I need to share experiences and training for young go-getters not to get compensation for work done but to do it with their hearts.

Our group have lost so many of our board members that have settled overseas as they felt the country was going through painful times and they had small children to consider.

Thank you to them for their hard work and their interest even if it is so far away.

Lara and Terence Teixeira and their family during our problematic time arranged for food to be delivered to the group for distribution during last year’s festive season. How cool is that? Sue Lubbe – Health and human rights activist (071 355 0426)
