The South African Chef Association Gauteng chapter held a Christmas party for GAP College learners on December 3.
Chefs from several different restaurants and students from Capsicum Culinary Studio in Rosebank ensured the learners received a special surprise.
The school was established in 2017 by Dr Tracey Stewart with two children and has now grown to 72 learners.
Whitney Reinecke, secretary for the school, said, “We are also the only school in the South of Johannesburg to incubate FET phase learners into sheltered employment.
In addition to the above, we also host a youth development and incubation programme where we seek funding and bursaries for postgraduate students to complete their master’s degree while gaining practical skills by working in our environment.
Our ECD phase is the fastest-growing sector of the school, and we are in desperate need of assistance to continue our vital work in our community.
“Our children are challenged with low to mid-functioning autism, functional cerebral palsy, neuro-behaviourally disordered children and children with global developmental delays as a result of foetal alcohol syndrome.
“We provide two nutritional meals a day with speech and occupational therapies to assist our children’s functioning.”
