Prisoners reflect on the pain they caused on GBV victims

One of the prisoners shared his story about how jealousy led him to murder his wife.

Prisoners reflected on their actions during the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children campaign hosted by local radio station Kasie FM at Boksburg Correctional Services on November 30.

According to Katlehong North SAPS media liaison officer Capt Mega Ndobe, who attended the campaign, the event aimed to give opportunities to the inmates to talk to the listeners.

He said some inmates, who were arrested for crimes related to domestic violence, shared their stories.

Ndobe said one of them shared his story about how jealousy led him to murder his wife.

“It was touching as he spoke while weeping, asking forgiveness from his dead wife.”

Ndobe said at least five inmates spoke about their experiences and how they intended to change.

They mentioned they failed to listen to their parents, who were trying to guide them.

They even spoke about the men’s forum they implemented in prison.

“Some of them are also studying towards diplomas and degrees in different fields, like business management and teaching. “It was the best experience, which I won’t forget. They even sang a song condemning women abuse,” said Ndobe.
