Vosloorus SAPS continues with GBV awareness campaign

The awareness campaign aimed to inform senior citizens about GBV and the different types of crime associated with it.

Vosloorus SAPS officers and gender-based violence (GBV) brigades from the Department of Community Safety joined hands to raise awareness of GBV at Khayalethu Old Age Home on November 8.

The awareness campaign aimed to inform senior citizens about GBV and the different types of crime associated with it.

GBV brigade coordinator Bheki Kubheka addressed them about psychological violence, economic violence, harassment and sexual violence.

Const Nqobile Mthimunye of Social Crime Prevention informed the senior citizens about the alarming cases of rape opened that are being investigated by the SAPS Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit.

SAPS deputy communications officer Const Nompumelelo Nhlapo engaged them on how to best serve communities to end the scourge of violence against women, children and men.

“We reminded Khayalethu Old Age Home residents that the duties of the police officers are to prevent crime before it takes place, but it can only be successful if all South Africans work with the police to fight crime in our communities,” said Nhlapo.
