CoE Mayor Masina officially opens Nyoni Regional Park

The park was completed over the period of three years, at a value of R21 million.

The executive Mayor of the City of Ekurhuleni Mzwandile Masina officially opened Nyoni Regional Park (NRP) at Vosloorus, on October 20.

Initially, the park was supposed to be handed over to the community on December 11, 2020, the opening and handover were postponed after President Cyril Ramaphosa adjusted the country lockdown level.

Mayor Mzwandile Masina takes a tour to view the park alongside MMC for Human Settlement Lesiba Mpya.

History of Nyoni Park

The plaque reads: Nyoni Regional Park was officially opened by the executive mayor of the City of Ekurhuleni Councillor Mzwandile Masina on 20 October 2021.

NRP was operational between the 70s through to the early 90s, when it was closed due to violence and bloodshed that occurred almost on a weekly basis.

The park became a source of pain for the community of Kathorus and was closed by Katlehong Town Council.

Today, NRP brings new life and hope to the Kathorus community, providing recreational activities that ascertain social cohesion. The park serves the community of Kathorus and its tourist.
