Over 200 arrested in Ekurhuleni during Operation Okae Molao

The police recovered nine vehicles.

The SAPS and other law-enforcement agencies arrested more than 250 suspects in Ekurhuleni between October 13 and 14 during the Okae Molao operation.

The success of the operation

According to Ekurhuleni district communications officer Capt Neldah Sekgobela, at least 125 suspects were arrested for contact crimes, including murder and attempted murder, assault, GBV, domestic violence, rape and armed and attempted robbery.

Seventeen suspects were arrested for property-related crimes, including house break-in and theft, business burglary, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, possession of stolen property, theft of motorcycle and motor vehicle.

Police closed three liquor outlets in Eden Park after they were found operating without a licence.

Eighty suspects were arrested for other serious crimes, like illegal mining, fraud, theft, contravention of protection order, contempt of court, the pointing of a firearm, child abuse, reckless and negligent driving, as well as theft of a firearm, culpable homicide, trespassing, crimen injuria.

The police recovered nine vehicles: a white Mercedes-Benz, a Toyota Etios, a Toyota Yaris, a Ford Ranger, a white Nissan NP300, a white Nissan taxi, a white Hyundai, a white Toyota Hilux and a white Isuzu KB.

They also recovered steel pots, picks, headlamps and shovels from illegal miners.

Police operation conducted between Dihlabakela and King Mohlala roads leading to Eden Park.

In a separate incident, six suspects were arrested for dealing in liquor without a licence, possession of drugs and for dealing in drugs in Benoni on October 15.

In Eden Park, three liquor outlets were closed for operating without a licence and liquor was confiscated. Three suspects were arrested for dealing in drugs and one for suspected stolen property after police found an LG TV and Sony music system in his possession.

A total of 48 traffic fines valued at R20 600 were issued to motorists who contravened the Road Traffic Act on both operations.

Ekurhuleni district commissioner Maj-Gen Anna Sithole appreciated the efforts made by law enforcers who worked on the operation.
