WATCH: AFCKO prepares to compete on the international stage

The last tournament is called Kyokushin Cup which is the seventh All UK Open Karate Tournament, it will take place in Britain on April 3.

African Full Contact Karate Organisation (AFCKO) from Thokoza will take part in three various local and international junior karate tournaments in the next few months.

Two qualifying 16-year-old girls Vunene Baloyi and Mqondile Jonah will represent the African Full Contact Karate Organisation (AFCKO).

The first tournament, World Championship Jiyutaido, will be held in Istanbul in Turkey between November 12 and 13.

This will be followed by the Kings of Kyokushin Cup, which is the fourth S’yabakhumbula memorial tournament. It will be held at Mamelodi East YMCA Hall in Pretoria on December 4.

The tournament is a tribute to the late sensei Lucky Masilela, Sindile Motha, Kenneth Mbatsani, Seth Mothwanama, Vusi Mthethwa, and Kohae Tshiamo Bogoshi.

The third tournament, Kyokushin Cup, is the seventh All UK Open Karate Tournament set to take place in Britain on April 3.

AFCKO junior fighter Jonah said she will be competing internationally for the first time and she looks forward to experiencing international competition, but most importantly to learn a thing or two from other fighters.

“I am training very hard because I want to win. I am looking forward to the tournament and I am ready,” said Jonah.

She said her wish is to be a world champion and to open her dojo one day.

Her partner Baloyi, who is also a junior fighter, said she is excited to be one of the selected to represent her team because it has always been her dream.

She said she is preparing herself by training hard five days a week and eating healthy to maintain her fitness.

“I am willing to do whatever it takes to bring back gold,” said Baloyi.
