Teachers dedicate Spring Day to sports

The participating schools in netball included Tamaho, Fumane, Tshabalala and Cathula primary schools, while SADTU team, Impilisweni and Fumana high schools battled on the soccer field.

Local primary and high school teachers took a well-deserved break from the classrooms to ease the stress and enjoy a game of netball and soccer at Izibuko Primary School, Nhlapo Section, Katlehong, on September 3.

SADTU felt the need to organise the Katlehong North Spring Games tournament for teachers to challenge each other in the court as part of self-amusement and welcoming the new season with positivity.

Fumane and the SADTU team claimed victory.

Teacher and SADTU branch executive committee member Rebecca Lukhele said the tournament is important to them as teachers.

“We thought it would be good to have this kind of game so the teachers can destress, and we are celebrating Spring Day. It was all about having fun.

“I think we are going to have the event annually,” said Lukhele.

She said with this event they also hope to encourage learners to participate in sports.

“This event will motivate children because when they see educators playing they will eventually gain interest,” she added.

Lukhele said this is a message to parents as well to say please allow the learners to take part in sports as it can contribute to learners’ confidence.

“If parents allow learners to participate, they will reach their full potential because sports is not only about performance. Learners can also learn important life aspects like discipline and respect,” she said.
