Kathorus BMW Club gives back to community

The donation drive was supported by Yum Baker, located in Sandton, Fearless Life Ministries from Alberton, SA Harvest and the Ekurhuleni municipal chairperson of infrastructure, Councillor Dino Peterson.

Fountain of Love Orphanage Centre (Floc) is happy to receive a helping hand from the Kathorus BMW Club on August 14.

The club visited the orphanage to donate toiletries, groceries and sanitary pads at 1087 Makuba Street, Tshongweni Section, Katlehong.

The centre is home to 49 children, aged between two and 17. It was established by Duduzile Mthembu in 2003.

It assists 83 families who are headed by the elderly and disabled with school uniforms and lunch boxes for their children.

The club also has a soup kitchen project for children in Nhlapo, Tshongweni and the nearby informal settlements, including Mandela, Crossroads and Emolotheni.

The treasurer of Floc, Portia Masango, welcomed the donations with gratitude. She said it has been difficult since they lost sponsors due to the pandemic.

“We used to feed people twice a week, but our food bank does not look the same. So we only do it once. It caters to 120 children in the community and informal settlements,” said Masango.

“We also do meals for the 33 elderly people within the surrounding areas. We give them three meals a day because they have to take medication,” she said.

Fountain of Love Orphanage Centre was spoiled with groceries, toiletries and sanitary pad donations on August 14.

The founder of Kathorus BMW Club, Siphiwe Mdaka, said there have been challenges and losses of lives due to Covid-19. But despite the challenges, they are glad they were able to make the event possible.

“Our organisation is based on charity,” said Mdaka.
