Parklands High appoints new acting principal

After being appointed in office at the end of May, Parklands High School’s new acting principal is confident that the school will achieve good results.

With just two months in office, Parklands High School’s newly appointed acting principal Robert Brown aims to empower learners holistically and to make the school stand out.

The enthusiastic educator, whose motto is ‘hard work will always be rewarded’, took over from Tommie Stoltz who retired earlier in the year.

From having started as a fine artist soon after completing his studies, Brown then worked in the teaching fraternity.

“I once tried selling my artwork in street corners but it didn’t work out. With time, I got a position to work as an art and culture teacher in 2003 at Primrose High School and was there until 2007. While working, I studied part-time for my education diploma,” he said.

Brown holds a national diploma in education and a diploma in fine art where he majored in painting and photography.

He has also worked at Dawnview High School where he became head of department in the art and other streams.
“I worked very closely with the school’s then deputy principal, Parklands High’s former principal, Mr Stoltz. Soon after, I worked at Hoërskool Vryburger High School where I became the school’s deputy principal until this year,” said Brown.

Bright vision

He assured the RECORD that he wants the school to stand out from other schools in Alberton.

“The former principal successfully built a strong foundation and I now want to work as hard to maintain that standard. My vision is to empower learners in all spheres, not only academically. I want to introduce more activities in the school and enable learners to explore more culturally,” said Brown.

He also said the school has grown immensely with about 800 learners to date.

Brown reiterated that matric learners at the school continue to perform exceptionally well due to their teacher’s tireless work.
