Sam Ntuli Mall in katlehong closes its doors on Tuesday, July 13 after massive damage.

While President Ramphosa addresses the nation last night, July 12, protestors were busy looting and vandalising the Sam Ntuli Mall in Katlehong.

Reports allege that an on-duty officer from the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department was killed during the riot in Sam Ntuli Mall.

The mall has been closed for operation after restaurants and gyms across the country were given the go-ahead to operate under level-4 restrictions.

Sam Ntulli Mall released a statement this morning following last night incident.

“Sadly, last night July 12, our entire mall was vandalised and plundered, with massive damage reported. It will take some time to rebuild what is lost and unfortunately, we will have to remain closed until further notice. We remain hopeful and positive and will keep you informed of our progress.”

The statement further appreciates the love and support they received from their tenants and patrons.

“Thank you for your love and support on our journey, you are everything to us. Our thoughts are with those who fought bravely to protect us. Amongst those our Shopping Centre Manager Lerato and the rest of the Management team who is heartbroken this morning.”

This comes after reports of Shopping Centres looted in Katlehong, Vosloorus, Spruitview and Thokoza.

A violent mob set Naledi Mall in Vosloorus alight on Monday morning and then looted and vandalised the buildings.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has strongly condemned the violence and looting that swept across much of KwaZulu-Natal and parts of Gauteng.
