Collecting R67 towards transport to help children

“The travelling cost per family for therapy averages R67. This amount also mirrors and reminds us of Mandela Day’s 67 minutes of action to help change the world for the better,” said Bishop.

Donor liaison officer from the Teddy Bear Clinic Darlene Bishop said they have been providing services to abused children for the last 32 years, and they are proud of their high success rate.

“We do not charge for our services, and one thing which can be frustrating is when children do not arrive to keep their appointments. When asked why, parents said they did not have funds for transport.

She said they run a project where schools let learners do community work for 20 hours. The clinic encourages learners to wash cars and charge R67, take a photo of the activity and deposit the money into its Nedbank account.

They will be rewarded with one-hour of community service on receipt of the photo and proof of payment.

“With this in mind, why not encourage your staff to have a heart and join us as we embark on a transport fund-raiser to help get the children to the Teddy Bear Clinic for treatment? In this way, they will not take time out of the office for 67 minutes but trade their time at R1 a minute. Perhaps the company will match the money the staff raise,” she said.

The transport money will be given to all children using their services in Johannesburg, Soweto, Krugersdorp, Joburg South and satellite branches.
