181 suspects arrested around Ekurhuleni

Among the 181 arrested suspects, 22 are women.

Ekurhuleni detectives conducted a suspect tracing operation which resulted in the arrest of at least 181 suspects for various offences during Operation Okae Molao recently.

According to police, the arrested suspects face charges of assault which include domestic violence and gender-based violence, murder and attempted murder, robbery and armed robbery, malicious damage to property, house break-in and theft.

Other charges include fraud, sexual assault, tampering with infrastructure, pointing with a firearm, impersonating police officer, contravening with a protection order, intimidation and defeating the end of justice, possession of stolen property, stolen goods, dangerous weapon, stolen motor vehicle, hijacked motor vehicle and the possession of drugs and dealing drugs.

Acting Ekurhuleni district communications officer Capt Mega Ndobe said among the 181 arrested suspects, 22 are women.

The acting Ekurhuleni district commander, Brig Thembeka Gwebushe, is impressed by the arrests and the effort made to trace wanted suspects by Ekurhuleni detectives.

The operation will continue until the suspects have no place to hide, especially in the whole area of Ekurhuleni, Gwebushe concluded.

All arrested suspects are expected to appear at different courts around Ekurhuleni according to their charges.
