7K Stunts Bicycle Crew and Katlehong North SAPS commemorate Youth Day

“The issue that affects us is GBV, which is the second pandemic in South Africa.”

The 7K Stunts Bicycle Crew partnered with Katlehong North SAPS for a uniform convoy programme in Skhosana Section, Katlehong, on June 16.

The programme also aimed to raise awareness of substance abuse and the fight against gender-based violence (GBV).

The campaign kickstarted at Skhosana Sports Grounds and proceeded to Katlehong Police Station with the youth, SAPS, CPF and members of the councillor’s office distributing pamphlets with information about drug abuse and GBV.

The chairperson of Katlehong CPF, Otto Sibeko, said the purpose of the campaign was to gather the youth and address issues that affected them, since it’s Youth Month.

“The issue that affects us is GBV, which is the second pandemic in South Africa. The youth must get information and pass it to their families because some of them are experiencing it first-hand from their families.

“They then suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder because they are seeing these things and they end up being traumatised.

“Hence, we were handing out pamphlets to make it easier for people to reach out,” he said.

7K Stunts Bicycle Crew also held a donation drive.

After the campaign, the crew cycled to Marimba Section, Vosloorus, to donate four bicycles to two child-headed families.

The co-founder of 7K Stunts Bicycle Crew, Kutlwano Mofokeng, said, “Part of the event was to highlight to the youth that this day was not only made for fighting for education but it was also made for us to have access to security and opportunities.”

He said the group has become more than just a riding crew because it spends most of the time with children and teaches them about respect and accountability.

Mofokeng added the organisation also plays a role in ensuring children know the importance of getting an education.

“The aim of the donation was to enable learners to use bicycles to go to school to alleviate the stress of some parents having to pay for transport since some of them are retrenched because of the pandemic,” he said.
