WATCH: Mall of the South Dis-Chem vaccinate the community

“The clients will be using the EVDS system from the government which is the booking system.”

May 25 saw the opening of a dedicated Dis-Chem vaccination site at Mall of the South Dis-chem.

Clinical regional manager Lindie Claase said it is a special day for most of the community of Mulbarton and the south to get the vaccine.

“Since we are still in the pandemic, we are pleased to say we are going to vaccinate people at Mall of the South Dis-chem. All of this will happen in conjunction with the team in Dis-Chem,” said Claase.

“Dis-Chem store manager Victor Cacho has arranged the place for us to get the job done. The clients will be using the Electronic Vaccination Data System (EVDS) system from the government, which is the booking system. The system will determine and inform us whether you are a health worker and 16 years and older to be eligible in this phase to get your vaccine. The procedure is for people to register online after which they will receive an SMS that says you are booked at Mall of the South for an appointment,” she said.

Claase told the CHRONICLE sometimes you get people who registered but they did not receive the SMS and that should not worry them.

“We assist if a person has not received an SMS but we assure that 90 per cent of the people get the SMS for vaccination through the registration. You will still be registered on the EVDS. Vaccinating people at this site is a long-term plan.”

She said for the coming few months they will be having the same procedure and people must make sure they are registered and vaccinated.

“It’s still difficult to estimate how many people will come through per day to get vaccinated but on average it can go up to 500 people a day. It will also depend on the demand, if the influx is high and the demand is there then we will most certainly continue,” said Claase.

Their hours of operation will be from 9am until 5pm Monday to Friday.
