Mr and Miss East Rand pageant crowns new titleholders

Despite the challenges, Moloi said her journey was filled with love and lessons.

The Mr and Miss East Rand (MMER) pageant recently crowned four finalists in various categories at the Boksburg Civic Centre on May 22.

Bontle Moloi (19) was crowned Miss East Rand Queen and Nonhlanhla Ndhlozi (12) was crowned East Rand Junior.

Faye Francke (15) scooped the Miss Teen East Rand title and Tim Munguambe (19) walked away with the Mr East Rand title.

Kathorus MAIL spoke to the 19-year-old newly crowned Queen Bontle Moloi from Phumula Gardens Extension 21.

Moloi said her success in the competition took sacrifices, hard work, consistency, commitment, working behind closed doors and mostly her love for pageantry.

“I do not have accurate words to describe my emotions but I feel like a goddess, I am beyond happy. I have accomplished my goal,” said Moloi.

She mentioned being crowned was not a smooth sail as she encountered challenges along the way.
Moloi struggled with transport on several occasions when practice sessions and meetings were held at Kempton Park.

“Not having funds to get there strained me. I had to beg around my neighbourhood or contact someone I knew to escort me and later fetch me.

“Most people understood my situation, they understood that I live with a single unemployed mother and one younger sister,” she said.

Despite the challenges, Moloi said her journey was filled with love and lessons.

“I have gained sisters from these pageants and I learned that finding a purpose is what keeps us going,” said Moloi.

The founder of MMER, Nonhlanhla Dalasile, said the pageant aims to provide a platform that encourages the youth to become charity and change ambassadors in their communities and beyond.

“We want to see every individual joining the pageant reaching their full potential and becoming the best version of themselves,” said Dalasile.
