Katlehong police warn of an increase in rape cases

Police urge community members to practise safety measures to avoid falling victims to rape.

Katlehong North SAPS station commander Col Raymond Buthelezi raised concerns about the increase in rape cases in the station’s precinct.

Buthelezi urged residents to report cases of rape and to practise safety measures to avoid falling victim.

The station’s media liaison officer, Capt Lesetja Mathobela, said most perpetrators are ex-boyfriends, boyfriends or even unknown to the victim.

“Rape victims often know the perpetrator. When your rights are violated, do not be afraid to report the case to the police, even when the perpetrator is unknown to you. Such information can assist police to trace patterns used by criminals,” said Mathobela.
